With a DPCM, the Italian government decided in August to make a change to the incentive structure. A change related only to contributions for electric cars and plug-ins. The fund for cars with emissions of 61-135 g/km CO2 has, in fact, long since been exhausted. For these cars, the incentives will return in 2023. The new 2022 car incentives, let’s call them that, have been available since 2 November.
Bonus increases by 50%
The first novelty concerns all those who have an ISEE under 30,000 euro and are interested in buying an electric car or plug-in. For them, in fact, the bonus is increased by 50 per cent.
The other rules remain unchanged, such as the price threshold of 35 thousand euro + VAT for electric cars and 45 thousand euro + VAT for Plug-in cars. So, the incentive structure for ISEE are the 30 thousand euro is as follows:
- 7500 euro for electrics in case of scrapping
- 4500 euro for electrics without scrapping
- 6,000 euro for plug-ins with scrapping
- 3000 euro for Plug-ins without scrapping
To be eligible for the extra bonus, those interested, when purchasing the car, must fill in a form declaring that their ISEE is less than 30,000 euros and that any members of the household have not already benefited from the contribution. For those whose ISEE is above 30 thousand euro, nothing has changed compared to before.
But the novelties do not end here.
Incentives also for rental companies
The structure of the 2022 car incentives had caused a lot of controversy due to the exclusion of companies working in the car rental sector. This gap has finally been closed with the revision of the Ecobonus.
So, now the incentives are also due to legal persons carrying out car rental activities for commercial purposes, other than car sharing, provided they retain ownership of the vehicles for at least 12 months. The subsidy is structured as follows:
- 2500 euros for electrics in the case of scrapping
- 1500 euros for electric cars without scrapping
- 2000 euros for plug-ins in the case of scrapping
- 1,000 euro for plug-ins without scrapping
It must be said that the other rules are still the same. So, even car rental companies, for example, will have to buy electric cars that do not exceed 35,000 euros + VAT or Plug-ins that do not cost more than 45,000 euros + VAT. In any case, we invite you to check the latest updates on car incentives, which may have changed since this article was written.
